"Strange," Berkeley Art Museum (BAMPFA), 2019-2020

I am Rocky, the artist behind Blazer, The Old Bay Bridge, Varamo, You and Me on a Sunny Day, and more. As a director, filmmaker, photographer, and writer based in the vibrant city of San Francisco—a muse for three of my volumes of work—I am committed to redefining cinematic storytelling.

By purposefully breaking down the traditional cinema format, I explore the human experience by reviving and giving form to vanished narratives. My live-action cine-novels are crafted using practical photographic techniques to capture physical actors, props, sets, and locations. These cinematic worlds, designed for museum installations, are built almost entirely from still photography. Through immersive, larger-than-life chronophotography, I invite viewers to move through the space, unlocking the emotional power of the story and transforming their experience of time and narrative.

My artwork has been written about internationally by Artweek, La Repubblica Newspaper in Italy, Lenscratch, Matter Magazine, PDN Magazine, Photo World China, The San Francisco Chronicle, and The Washington Post. “You and Me on a Sunny Day” has won many awards, solo shows, and is in the permanent collections of the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA) and the Tweed Museum of Art.
